>Each of our teaching areas is dedicated to a specific age range of children, namely:
All four classrooms are located alongside the Primary School’s classrooms to ensure that students with learning difficulties are accommodated alongside their mainstream peers. We run a range of integrated and inclusive programs across the ESC and Primary School and regularly share classrooms and resources to accommodate the needs of students across both schools.
One of the critical factors in the success of any inclusion program is the collaborative nature of the relationship that exists between the ESC and the Primary School. At Endeavour Schools we had the positive opportunity of building an inclusive ethos to the schools from the outset when the schools were built in 2000. Parents and staff from both schools were involved in all aspects of planning for the new schools from the very beginning. This afforded many opportunities to develop strong relationships and shared educational understanding with a commitment to the process of inclusion. This has lead to, amongst other things, a shared School Council, shared teaching staff and resources and joint plans and policies. The Administration team of Endeavour Schools work as one unit with two Principals and two Deputies sharing the responsibility for the management of the schools.
In addition to this inclusive ethos, Endeavour ESC provides specific and specialist learning programs for students with learning difficulties in small group settings. All students have Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) which are developed in collaboration with parents, teachers and a range of professionals such as educational psychologists, occupational and speech therapists.
Mainstream students who are experiencing difficulties with their learning, social skills or have significant health concerns are also supported by the specialist provision of staff in the ESC. With teacher and parental consensus mainstream students can access the specialist educational programs the ESC offers that are designed specifically to meet the special educational needs of primary students.
Learning opportunities are provided in all eight learning areas of the Curriculum Framework and Spanish is taught by a specialist LOTE teacher. A weekly hydrotherapy programme and gymnastics programme is currently in place for small groups of our students who require additional gross motor development.
We are also well resourced in Information and Communication Learning Technologies with access to computer labs and a bank of laptops and specialist teaching programme.
Endeavour ESC is currently staffed by 7 teachers and 15 Level 3 Education Assistants and has 36 students enrolled. All staff members are specifically trained and highly qualified in their area of specialisation. Our Art specialist, Mrs Beverley O’Shaughnessy is an Endeavour ESC teacher who is a winning 2007 nominee for the “Premier’s Teacher of the Year Award” and our LOTE/Physical Education Specialist, Mr Colin Pestell was awarded the “Australasian Martial Arts Trainer of the Year 2003” and has been recognised as the winner of the 2006 Education Support Teacher Award for the Primary Years given by WAESPAA (Western Australian Education Support Principals & Administrators Association).
